ModemsWhat modem speeds do you currently support? We virtually support from the slowest of modems to the fastest of modems. Our baseline is 14.4bps and our highline is ISDN. What we do not support, nor do many other ISPs, is the X2 standard for 56k modems. The majority of modem manufactures guaranteed a free upgrade from X2 to V.90. Check with your modem manufacturers website for more information. All other 56k modems are supported including flex,V.34, and the new ITU V.90. Please tell me a little something about V.90 modemsA v.90 modem is the new standard for 56k modems. This standard was introduced in order for all 56k modems to be able to communicate with each other. When 56k modems were first introduced, there was no set of standards, so different companies produced 56k modems that were incompatible with each other. Pretty soon, the v.90 standard will be fully implemented and you will be able to connect without any problems. If you have a 56k v.34 modem and you wish to upgrade to v.90 contact your modem manufacturer. Most new modems are able to upgrade to v.90 How fast can my v.90 56k modem connect to the Internet?Any 56k modem will never achieve a true 56k connection. The FCC limits the speed of data transmission on telephone lines to 53k. With a reasonable phone line, and close proximity (about 3 1/2 miles) to your local phone company building, you should be able to connect at speeds between 40 and 53k. However, some phone lines have certain impairments on them that can cause noise. But don't worry , if you are currently getting good connections with your v.34 modem, you'll significantly benefit from having a v.90 modem. How do I find which IWLink numbers are v.90 supported?Good news! ALL of our dial up numbers are now v.90 complaint. And most are set to handle ISDN, search our Dial-Up Numbers. How do I install my modem for Windows NT 4.0?In Control Panel, double click on Modems (If the Install wizard does not install automatically, click the ADD button) Check the box " Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list" Click Next. In Manufactures box click Standard Modem Types, In models box, click model corresponding to the speed of your modem. Complete the instructions specified by the Install New Modem Wizard. |
